I often have people asking for a copy of my slides from a Profibus Diagnostics Seminar that we gave at the Eskom convention centre last year. I got the last slot of the day so I ended up speaking to only 40 people or so.

Hopefully this post will help you if you are having trouble finding the IP address of your Anybus X gateway. The MODBUS TCP Client Range of these gateways enable you to control a MODBUS TCP server and port that information to a whole host of different protocols such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, etc.  When you get one of these units out of the box, you shouldn't have any problems searching for and configuring the gateway on your Ethernet network, but sometimes you are given a configuration that has been used in the plant already and now you need to make some changes.  So what is your first step? Install and run the Anybus IPconfig tool (available on the Anybus website or on the the CD that comes with your unit). How to License your ProfiTrace Software for your ProfiCore Ultra

It is recommended that you download the latest version of ProfiTrace from here . You’ll be asked to fill in your contact details, but this so that we can follow up and make sure that everything went smoothly with your installation. Now for the licensing part - t here are a couple of ways that you can go about to license ProfiTrace: 1) The easy way: Make sure that the PC is connected to The Internet. Connect the ProfiCore Ultra and run ProfiTrace  Click on the “Init ProfiCore Ultra” button On the window popup The software will try to initialize the ProfiCore A warning error will appear saying that the license could not be found. Creating a Java Program on the HMS Anybus Communicator Hardware Platform

Time to dust off the cobwebs and do some "legacy" development! In this blog, I'm going to show you how to get to a point where you can start writing Java code on the HMS Anybus Communicator. I find that it doesn't matter what language you code in, the tricky bit is getting to the point where you can simply create and run the time-honoured "Hello World!" program. Using new editors, sorting out dependencies, making physical hardware connections can take up a big chunk of your time. First, some information on the hardware platform: The Anybus brand from HMS contains hundreds of gateways (or protocol converters) that can be used to convert between common industrial communications protocols such as PROFIBUS, MODBUS, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, PROFINET, CANOpen, J1939, etc. Check out anybus.com for a full list of protocols supported out of the box.
